Another one in the series of illustrations for Yoga Earth food products. Beautiful and kinda creepy, that Maca root.

Schizophrenia and Almonds
I’ve been busy lately. I’ve been generating enough work to post, but just haven’t made the time to do so. I’ll try to catch up over the next couple weeks, posting a varied selection of recent paid work. Map design, comics, food packaging, website illustration, all sorts of little jobs piled up on top of each other, making me feel schizophrenic. Off all this stuff, the illustrations for Yoga Earth, a healthy snack food company, have been the most gratifying. Very friendly client, a good designer, and its also nice to have an excuse (getting paid!) to do nature drawings. The above is a picture of almond tree branches.

West Virginia Apples
There’s an apple tree down the road from here, and back in the fall Milo would like to walk to it and pick the fruit. It was homely and a bit worm-eaten, but the apples were tart, sweet, and crisp. This painting was done in October. Not up to Abbey Ryan standards, but a valiant attempt.

Collaborations with Milo, Part 2
There is a crabapple tree not too far from the house. Milo likes to walk there and pick the apples. They’re ugly, but they actually taste pretty good.

Yellow Oyster Mushroom
I bought these at the Cortelyou Rd. farmer’s market this past weekend. Slightly different shape that typical oyster mushrooms, with pale grey stalks and ochre heads. Incredible smell. Delicious with pasta and lots of butter!

Cauliflower Stem

This is the stem of one of those purple cauliflowers, which happen to be delicious. I parboiled it in salted water and then tossed it with a little lemon olive oil and lemon juice. Although it lost a bit of it’s bright purple-ness in the parboiling, when i sprinkled on the lemon juice, parts of it turned an almost florescent magenta. Wild. Made me wonder…if I put lemon juice in the water, will the whole thing turn that color? I’ll have to buy another one and try it.
