Elliot book 3, new cover sketch

September 20th, 2011

The conclusion of the trilogy! Battle royale! Elliot and his adversaries from the first two books unite in final confrontation with Kovol the demon. Since Kovol was prominently featured on the cover of book 2 I didn’t want to show him again here. I also wanted to convey the epic, cast-of-many aspect of this book and to show a slightly more mature and confident Elliot. To avoid the final piece being too busy I will use the light of the glowing broom (hard to explain, you’ll have to read the book!) to keep focus on the main character. I intend to show the progress of this illustration as it comes together over the next couple weeks…P.S.: please ignore the highly suspect anatomy in this sketch. I’ll be sure to work on that…

Elliot & The Pixie Plot, a sneak peek a week, Part One

January 20th, 2011

The second book in the Jennifer Nielsen’s series of books about Elliot, an awkward but intrepid young boy who finds himself in the middle of some wild Elf-Goblin-Brownie-Demon conflicts, will be released soon. I just finished up the interior illustrations and I’m looking forward to working on book three. Once a week I’ll post a selected image from the interior illustrations, up until publication. This is one of my favorites, depicting Elliot forced into a fight-to-the-death with his old nemesis,  a goblin named Grissel. The crazed and rabid audience of howling goblins was fun to draw. See if you can spot the tea party references in the crowd.
